Enrich your child’s summer with creative weekly summer camps at One Strange Bird. We offer full and half day summer camps that are programmed thematically.  Your child will explore a variety of mediums such as clay, painting, mixed media, drawing, cartooning, and more! Let Chicago’s best artists lead your children into a new level of creativity.  Our camps are mixed age learning environments.  We suggest ages 4-11.  

Full day camps: 9:00-4:00
Half day camps: AM 9-12 and PM 1-4

Students bring their own bag lunch.  We can accommodate refrigerated lunches too!

Before care can start as early as 8:00 and after care can run as late as 7:00.  Children will be provided with unstructured, productive play and art activities. Prices start around $10 an hour.

Welcome to Chicago's place for kid's art classes and kid's art summer camps! One Strange Bird offers weekend art classes for children ages four and up in a variety of mediums and themes.  We offer fun classes for kids taught by teaching professionals in painting, origami, clay, drawing, and more. Starting this fall, we will offer day camps that will follow all the CPS days off.  Don't want to drop your loved one with the baby sitter?  Send them do day camp, where the learning and fun will go all day!

Bring your little one to learn the art of collage!  They will learn painting techniques and color theory.  Learn the art of other people's images, transfer photocopies, and explore paper techniques.  Kids will fine tune motor skills through cutting, learn about brushes, and mix their own colors.  All of this will be explored and culminate in a collage piece on a canvas panel.
  
Saturday, June 29th, 10:00-12:00

Learn the basics of painting in water-based paints.  From brushes to color mixing, this intro class is perfect for the absolute beginner to the aspiring professional.  Experiment with acrylics and learn the basics: brush types, brush strokes, color theory, color mixing, and simple painting techniques.  The course will cover experimental and traditional painting techniques giving students a strong foundation to be practiced and built upon.

Get messy!  You child will learn the basics in hand building with clay in this fun class with clay expert Jess Egan. Kids will learn about coil building, slab building, and pinch pots! Your little one will get to use a variety of tools that are the same as those used by the experts. Every student will go home with go home with clean hands and an artwork made of clay.

Get your little one ready for Spring with our kids terrarium making workshop! Participants will build their own green habitat by using sand, dirt, plants, and figurines. They will learn some basics about plants and why they are so important to us. Directions for terrarium maintenance will also be covered. Get creative by combining art, nature, and imagination!

Calling all super heroes!  Kids will create their own their own superhero and design a short comic while learning basic drawing skills, story development, and a little bit of bookmaking too. We will look at comics that inspire us to help your little one create an inspiration comic of their own. If your child is still learning his or her ABC's that can still create a beautiful story with short captions written by teacher and student together.

From graphite to charcoal this intro class covers it all.  Your child will learn the beginnings of drawing from observation in this fun weekend workshop. Your young artist will learn perspective, 3-D shapes, and more!

Join Jerry, the origami specialist, in learning the art of the fold.  From cranes to paper cubes, bring your kids to fold you way through this ancient art.  Students will learn basic folding and sculpting techniques to transform their flat sheet of paper in to a finished sculpture. Using brightly colored papers, this class will cover the basics and then move into more complicated forms.  Repeat students will not be disappointed!
